CSCW in organizations - A perspective on workflow, awareness and organizational context.
Within the CSCW framework the following aspects are investigated:
2) organizational context
3) the role of awareness in cooperative work
The investigation is based on a field study in a Danish office environment. It is governed by the interest of achieving a better understanding of the three matters in general and especially by the purpose of using information technology to support the cooperative work.
The investigation leads to three main conclusions:
1) The set of tools, means and mechanisms that influences the cooperative work is even more encompassing and multifarious than the set usually investigated.
2) Traditional workflow systems and organizational context tools are blind to important parts of the work.
3) Shared understandings and different understandings are found in various shapes in the organization. Computer systems have to support the interaction related to establishing understandings and translating between understandings.
